Default Changelog

This thread will be used to announce miscellaneous updates to the site code and interface which are not significant enough to make it to the front page.

Mar 7, 2010
- Websites now have an "active" checkbox. Instead of deleting defunct websites, users can now set it to inactive so that it doesn't display. Old addresses are still useful since they could be cached by archive.org.
- Album pages now have a category listing on the sidebar
- Organization members are now displayed on the organization entry. The crown icon denotes owner or representative (like in artist pages).

Do you think we could get the option to manage members in the same manner as units?

EDIT: Also, past members are still normally listed.

Yeah, eventually.

Mar 7, 2010
- Terminology: "Members" changed to "Staff"
- Staff linked to organizations with the "until" date set (i.e. former staff) no longer show up on the listing

This actually results in a problem, defunct organizations that have a date set for members (so it shows up appropriately as a previous organization) aren't listed. So make an exception for defunct organizations?

I guess an extra "Former Staff" listing will make it less ambiguous.

Is it possible you could programmatically change inactive URLs to behave like the one on Masami Ueda's page?

Some webpages are not cached and I'd rather avoid displaying dead-end links, as those are rather annoying. Might be better to do it manually for now.

Also, some updates:

Mar 14, 2010
- Delayed albums now have a notice displayed underneath the album infobox, like cancelled albums. Example: http://vgmdb.net/album/18371
- Old release date field removed from album/org/artist/calendar/event/statistics pages and advanced search. It will no longer be updated upon album submissions. If there's anything broken please report.

- Publisher field now added to album blocks in What's New

This album doesn't show up on the suggested releases for Reitaisai 7 (when linking.) Problem with the date change or something else?

- If all items for a particular filter (e.g. publisher type, distributor type) are checked, that filter is no longer generated and applied. This also cuts down on the filter description spam in advanced search.

Been a while since I updated this, so I'll just roll up the changes:

Apr 16, 2011
  • Major server software upgrades finished
  • Discography pages now display event tags for listed albums
  • Artist credits for albums can now be associated to a unit (which must also be linked to the album). This changes the credit display to "Unit (Artist)"
  • Units can be nested, like "Unit (Subunit (Artist, Artist), Artist)"
  • Non-linked artists can also be associated with units in album credits
  • Reverse propagation and unassigned artist matching improved
  • Rejected album entries now show the album title in the recent updates list instead of "deleted/inactive"

  • Added a few more artist roles: SFX Artist, Programmer, Mastering Engineer, Mixing Engineer, Recording Engineer. Note that these roles may be reorganized into sub-roles in the future. Currently they only show in discographies and artist credit management.
  • Inactive albums now show up in the list of possible catalog number duplicates when you submit a new album.
  • Deleting a cover will now bring you back to the cover management page, without a redirection message. In the future the process will be ajaxified.
  • Album's For Sale => Albums For Sale

An interesting move. Wouldn't we also need synthesizer operators (or synthesize manipulators)? I think they would induce some discussion and inconsistency, but now we have programmers. Also, if I understand it correctly (which isn't often the case ), we're able to select those roles on the linking screen, but currently lacks a field to credit them on albums? Asides of the cases where sound effects are somehow featured in a piece of music, or the actual role of someone who is credited as programmer is rather closer to that of an arranger, do we select them yet?

Nevermind about the latter point. I got it!

Synthesizer programmers can be credited as programmers for now, later we can split that into sub-roles for better differentiation. Speaking of which, the "performer" field really needs to be further split into "vocalist" => vocal/chorus/voice/rap/etc and "instrumentalist" => trumpet/cowbell/etc.
